The 62nd Annual Scientific Conference of the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) 2026 was successfully held on 30–31 March 2026 at M Roof Hotel, Ipoh, Malaysia. Organized by MSPTM, the conference brought together researchers, academics, and professionals dedicated to advancing the fields of parasitology and tropical medicine. This year’s theme, “Bridging Science and Society: Community-Based Research to Fight Against Infectious Diseases,” underscores the importance of converging scientific innovation with community engagement. The conference featured keynote and plenary sessions delivered by leading experts in parasitology, tropical medicine, zoonoses, emerging infections, and vector biology, providing a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Among the participants, Fahira Ainun Nisa from EHI took part in the Rapid Oral Presentation–Student Competition, presenting an abstract titled “A preliminary assessment of the Plasmodium cytochrome c oxidase subunit III (COX3) gene as a molecular target for the detection of zoonotic malaria.” Her contribution highlighted ongoing efforts to develop molecular tools to improve the detection of zoonotic malaria, aligning with the conference’s mission to bridge research and real-world impact in combating infectious diseases. Through this conference, EHI was able to strengthen our efforts in advancing public health and in contributing to the scientific community against infectious diseases.
