The 21st International Congress for Tropical Medicine and Malaria (ICTMM) 2024, held from September 19-23 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, gathered thousands of researchers, experts, policymakers, and international authorities to discuss the latest advances in tropical medicine and malaria. This prestigious event served as a key platform for exchanging research and experiences in the fight against tropical diseases, offering seminars, oral and poster presentations, exhibitions, social programs, and more.
Three researchers from EHI, Agatha Puspitasari, Aisah Amelia, and Ristya Amalia, participated in this global congress through presenting their own studies. Ristya presented a poster titled “Exploring the Incidence of Plasmodium knowlesi Human Infections in Malinau, North Kalimantan and Sabang, Aceh, Indonesia.” Agatha delivered a three-minute presentation on “Cryptic Absence and Genetic Variation of Plasmodium falciparum Histidine Rich Protein 2 and 3 in Papuan Field Isolates and Their Impact on Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests: A Long-Awaited Update from Indonesia.” Lastly, Aisah presented her presentation that is titled “Serological Exposure Markers to Detect the Hidden Burden of Malaria in the Spleen.”
This conference serves as a unique opportunity for experts from different countries to share insights on tropical diseases and malaria while fostering networking opportunities for future collaborations.
