In recent decades, zoonotic diseases\u2014transmitted from animals to humans\u2014have increased, constituting over 60% of global infectious diseases, with 70% originating from wildlife. Indonesia, known for its rich biodiversity, harbors 132 zoonotic pathogens, posing significant health risks. Plasmodium knowlesi<\/i>, a parasite infecting long-tailed macaques, was recently discovered in Sabang, Aceh, challenging the region\u2019s malaria-free status. Arbovirus-related diseases, such as dengue fever, are also concerning, with Aceh reporting an incident rate of 37.60% and a mortality rate of 0.77% in 2022.1<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> Effective zoonotic disease surveillance systems are crucial for early detection and response. Skilled individuals are needed for field investigations to identify sources of infection. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Institut Teknologi Bandung, in collaboration with local health institutions, i.e. Laboratorium Kesehatan Daerah Sabang, Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional -PRBM Eijkman, and Exeins Health Initiative, aims to strengthen the capacity of community health workers and medical laboratory technologists in Sabang. Ristya Amalia, a research assistant in the Malaria research group, and Yora Permata Dewi, a senior research assistant in the Emerging Virus research group, were invited as speakers and trainers to educate about zoonotic diseases and support early detection systems.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The event, held in Sabang from June 11-13, 2024, included a seminar and workshop. Attendees comprised representatives from various health and environmental departments, local health clinics, and educational institutions. The seminar had 58 participants, while the workshop hosted 10 medical laboratory technologists from Cot Ba\u2019u, Sukakarya, Jaboi, Pria Laut, and Sukajaya Primary Health Clinics. During the workshop, molecular detection of Plasmodium<\/i> targeting the parasite\u2019s genetic material and rapid test detection for dengue, Leptospira<\/i>, and malaria was conducted.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
