Exeins Health Initiative (EHI), represented by Fiqry Kleib, recently participated in the 2024 Human Cell Atlas (HCA) Single-Cell Omics in-person Computational and Experimental Design Workshop, Bangkok, hosted by the HCA, Mahidol University, and the Alex Shalek Group at MIT. This workshop, held from June 24 to June 28, 2024, at the Faculty of Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, marked a significant advancement in the application and training of single-cell RNA sequencing technology for researchers across ASEAN countries.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The workshop aimed to enhance the skills of both experimental and computational researchers. Participants were divided into two tracks with tailored curricula, learning crossover techniques to enrich their research capabilities. The workshop’s primary objectives were to introduce the rapidly expanding field of single-cell transcriptomics and multi-omics, teach robust single-cell analysis techniques, and provide hands-on lab exercises. Participants also learned the rationale behind algorithm choices, enabling informed decision-making in their research. Additionally, the workshop aimed to build a network of single-cell researchers across Asia. Attendees included notable figures from Mahidol University, Human Cell Atlas, and MIT, along with researchers from various Asian institutions and vendors including 10x Genomics, Parse Bioscience,\u00a0 Genomax, Biodesign, AWS, MGI and BD Biosciences.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Participants gained a deep understanding of single-cell RNA sequencing data analysis and bioinformatics techniques, including working with count matrices, clustering and annotating cells, integrating data, correcting batch effects, and analyzing cell-cell communication. The workshop concluded with EHI becoming a member of the Human Cell Atlas, furthering its commitment to advancing genomics research in Southeast Asia. This membership enables EHI to foster collaborations with other ASEAN partners using this technology and contributing to the HCA database.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
