To strengthen laboratory-based surveillance, EHI\u2019s Senior Research Assistant, Edison Johar, was invited to hold a capacity-building activity on November 31, 2025, at Balai Besar Labkesmas Yogyakarta, focused on introducing bioinformatics and its applications in public health laboratories. The event aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of laboratory personnel in using bioinformatics tools for data analysis and integration. Seventeen participants attended the training, representing the microbiology and biomolecular laboratories, outbreak-management teams, health risk factors & disease surveillance teams, as well as pathology, immunology, and public health laboratories (tiers 2\u20134). <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Over the course of five hours, participants took part in three hours of lectures covering \u201cIntroduction and Benefits of Bioinformatics in Health,\u201d \u201cGenomic Characterization Applications,\u201d and \u201cData Analysis from Sanger Sequencing.\u201d The session concluded with a two-hour hands-on workshop, where participants practiced analyzing sequencing data directly. EHI believes that strong bioinformatics capacity is essential for strengthening Indonesia\u2019s public health system, especially as the country moves toward more advanced, data-driven disease surveillance. As part of its mission, EHI is committed to supporting not only large research centers, but also smaller and developing laboratories across the nation. By ensuring that every laboratory is equipped with the skills to analyze and interpret genomic and health data, EHI aims to create a more connected, capable, and resilient laboratory network. Through initiatives like this, EHI continues to promote equitable access to knowledge and technology, enabling all laboratories to contribute meaningfully to public health research and data-driven decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
