The Central Public Health and Environmental Laboratory (Balai Besar Laboratorium Kesehatan Lingkungan or BBLKL) held a training program in Salatiga on September 15-17, 2025. This activity was part of the mandate from Ministry of Health Regulation Num. 27 of 2023, which emphasizes the role of BBLKL in strengthening management and the skills of human resources in the laboratory field. Thus, in support of this effort, researchers from EHI, Chairin Nisa Ma’roef and Ida Yus Sriyani, led the training on virus culture to strengthen infectious disease surveillance and diagnostics.

Through this training program, the BBLKL team gained hands-on experience in cell culture techniques, such as subculturing, cell counting, and preparing cells for experiments. These practical sessions enhanced the team’s understanding of cell culture. EHI believes that BBLKL already has the facilities to support cell culture and virus infection laboratory work. With the foundation built through this training and guidance from EHI researchers, the team is now better equipped to contribute to disease surveillance and diagnostics. Continued collaboration and capacity building will ensure BBLKL plays an even stronger role in protecting public health.
