EHI Showcases Innovations at JITMM 2024: Advancing Tropical Medicine Through Global Collaboration

The Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting (JITMM) 2024, held from December 11 to 13 at the Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai in Bangkok, brought together global experts under the theme “Advancements in Tropical Medicine: On the Horizon.” The conference served as a platform to explore the future of tropical disease research, highlighting the latest innovations, technologies, and policy developments that aim to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tropical illnesses. Participants engaged in a wide range of activities, including keynote lectures, symposium sessions, oral and poster presentations, and networking events designed to foster international collaboration.

On the first day, the EHI team participated in the 29th Chamlong-Tranakchit Harinasuta Lecture, which focused on the critical role of diagnostics in managing tropical diseases. EHI researchers, Fiqry Kleib and Edison Johar presented their latest findings on emerging arboviruses and the recovery of Tembusu virus in Indonesia. The following days featured presentations on viral surveillance and innovations in next-generation sequencing, with EHI’s Khin Saw Myint chairing a session and presenting research on tracking viral threats. The event concluded with a plenary session on accelerating innovation and an award ceremony, where Edison received an honorable mention for his poster presentation. EHI believes that collaborative efforts, such as JITMM, will pave the way toward more effective solutions for combating tropical diseases globally.
