Frilasita Aisyah Yudhaputri
Chief Executive Officer
Co-Founder and CEO of EHI, Frilasita, has been working on emerging infectious pathogens for more than 15 years. She has established a track record of leadership accomplishments and technical expertise for tackling research in molecular characterization of emerging infectious pathogens. During her former tenure, she served as the lead for whole genome sequencing of a diverse panel of viral pathogens on several platforms (i.e. Ion torrent, Illumina and ONT NGS platforms). Frilasita leverages her technical expertise and leadership experience to tackle challenges in capacity building and experimental design to improve surveillance and the early detection of emerging infectious pathogens in Indonesia. Other than virology, Frilasita has an interest in utilizing novel biotechnologies to accelerate research capacity in Indonesia. She serves as a principal investigator to study multisystem inflammatory syndrome in Indonesian children using single-cell RNA sequencing on the 10x Genomics platform, a study first of its kind in Indonesia. Frilasita, receipt of Forbe’s Indonesia Inspiring Women 2021 and UNFPA Woman Leader 2021 awards, strives coordinate with the team of experts here in EHI to contribute to the enrichment of the molecular biological research sector in Indonesia.

Emerging Infectious Diseases
Leily Trianty started her scientific career as a research assistant after graduating from her master’s degree in Cell Biology and Development at Institut Teknologi Bandung. She then obtained her doctoral degree in Medical Biology from Universitas Indonesia after receiving a scholarship from the South East Asia Infectious Clinical Research Network (SEAICRN). Leily is now involved in field research setup for malaria epidemiology and other infectious diseases to analyse pathogens and their vectors, as well as their interactions.

Khin Saw Myint is a clinical virologist currently overseeing the Emerging Virology Laboratory at EHI Jakarta after working with AFRIMS Virology Department in Thailand for 22 years and Eijkman Indonesia for more than 10 years. Her special interest is in laboratory capacity building, research and characterization of arboviruses and neurotropic viruses. She has worked extensively with hepatitis viruses, arboviruses, respiratory viruses, leptospirosis and in the field of pathogen discovery. She has conducted human, animal, and laboratory studies on the transmission and pathology of viral and bacterial diseases. She is also well-versed in standard virological assays, with skills in developing diagnostic platforms. She has conducted both formal and informal laboratory training with US Department of Defense institutions, WHO, US CDC and regional countries (Thailand, Philippines, Nepal, Bhutan, Indonesia, Myanmar). Her recent award is an honor Award from the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, for leading the successful multinational partnership to build the first capacity in Indonesia for identifying emerging zoonotic viruses.

Yora Permata Dewi
Senior Research Assistant
Yora’s introduction to the field of infectious disease began when she assisted in a study to explore the characterization of four dengue serotypes and their pathogenesis into the same disease. She continued to nurture her interest in the field through the pursuit of an MSc in Biomedical Science (Medical Microbiology) at Universitas Indonesia. Her thesis focused on generating and analyzing the antigenicity of recombinant yeast-expressed dengue virus serotype 2 pre-membrane and envelope (prM/E) protein. Since then, she gained experience in advanced molecular techniques such as diagnostics, cell culture, molecular characterization, virus isolation, immunoassays, and other serological techniques. Currently, Yora’s work focuses on the detection and characterization of emerging vector-borne zoonotic pathogens as well as their transmission dynamics and molecular epidemiology. In turn, she plays a major role in the collaboration with international partners including the US CDC and MahidolOxford Research Unit to study the seroprevalence of Rickettsia in Indonesia.

Chairin Nisa has been working in virus isolation and cell culturing techniques across Indonesia for more than 40 years. Virus isolation is the gold standard assay to detect viruses isolated from diagnostic samples. Her expertise has been an asset in the early detection of emerging viruses in Indonesia. As an instructor, she holds the American Embassy: Meritorious Honor Award for her tireless efforts to improve capacity building for the detection of emerging viruses through training researchers at a myriad of institutes and universities across the archipelago. At EHI, Chairin serves as an exemplary example of the wealth of knowledge that supports our research efforts in the surveillance and early detection of emerging infectious diseases.

Aghnianditya Kresno Dewantari

Aghnianditya has been studying zoonotic and respiratory viruses since 2016. She was involved in the development of in-house ELISAs to detect Japanese Encephalitis and Chikungunya virus, exploration of the viral etiologies of MERS-CoV suspected patients in Jakarta, the characterization of Rhinovirus C in a pediatric case study and a review on the molecular biology of coronaviruses. She has an extensive track record in conducting molecular and serological techniques for infectious diseases application. As a result, she served as a trainer in conjunction with USAID to aid in the capacity building of emerging virus detection in Ministry of Health regional laboratories. In 2022, she was appointed as the network coordinator for Global Action in Healthcare Network project working together with three national referral hospitals in Jakarta, Bandung and Medan as well as international collaborators; the Health Security Partner and the US CDC to survey infectious diseases transmissions including SARS-CoV-2. Edison Johar
Senior Research Assistant
Edison has a keen interest in molecular biology and infectious diseases research. He earned his master's degree from Australian National University with his thesis focusing on the role of platelets in Plasmodium infection. Prior to his role in EHI, Edison was involved in the molecular characterization of emerging viruses and their epidemiological impact in Indonesia. As part of the national COVID-19 response, Edison assisted in the study of “Convalescent plasma therapy in patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19: A study from Indonesia for clinical research in low- and middle-income countries” and “Immunogenicity and Reactogenicity of CoronaVac in an Indonesian cohort”. His ongoing projects includes the whole genome sequencing of emerging infectious pathogens and the epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases in Indonesia.

Lydia has been working of red blood cell membrane disorders for the past 8 years as well as diagnosis of Duchenne/Becker Muscular Disorders and Prader Willi/Angelman Syndrome. She is also highly trained in G6PD deficiency diagnosis and has been working in this field for 7 years. During COVID-19 pandemic she was involved in whole genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 samples. Her scientific interests include bioinformatics and cell biology of oxidative pathway in red blood cell.

Fiqry Kleib
Research Assistant
Fiqry’s primary research interest pertains to translational immunology, infectious diseases, and interdisciplinary research. His MRes thesis focused on the validation and development of a host proteomic classifier model to distinguish between bacterial and viral infections in critically ill pediatric patients. Before his current work, he was involved in global and public health projects. He interned at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), providing technical support and developing IP training courses/workshops relevant to neglected tropical diseases, malaria and tuberculosis researchers. Fiqry has also contributed to works in the field of medical communication including a critical analysis of public health intervention and strategies across three different countries that leveraged their culture and health attitudes to galvanize citizens and combat the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. His ongoing projects include the immune profiling of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in COVID-19-infected children, the validation of a host-proteomic signature to determine the severity of COVID-19 in infected adults and a systematic review of the seroprevalence of Arboviruses in Indonesia.

Ida Yus Sriyani
Research Assistant
Ida’s research interests relate to molecular biology, cancer and infectious diseases. Her thesis studied the prevalence of mutations in the PIK3CA gene in breast cancer patients. She collaborated with researchers across West Java, studying the characterization of avian flu viruses and a project to study cytomegalovirus (CMV) in infants. Prior to her position in EHI, Ida was employed to study acute febrile illness across Indonesia as part of a US CDC collaboration. In turn, Ida has gained expertise and illustrated competency in multiple advanced molecular techniques including but not limited to qRT-PCR, PCR, PRNT, cell culturing, RNA and DNA viral extraction, and metagenomics. Like many of our researchers, Ida was an imperative member of the healthcare response during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, contributing to vaccination clinical trial studies and large-scale diagnostic screening programs.

Egrina obtained her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry at Institut Teknologi Bandung. She then completed her master’s thesis in Biological Sciences from Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, focusing on redesigning novel antibody fragments using X-ray protein crystallography. She has experience working with recombinant enzymes, antibodies, and protein subunits, and is interested in structure-based protein design for therapeutic purposes.

Agatha Mia Puspitasari
Research Assistant
Agatha finished her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Universitas Brawijaya. Since 2015, she has been working on malaria genomics, particularly in genotyping and sequencing lab works. She completed her Master’s degree in Biomedical Science at Liverpool John Moores University in 2022. Her thesis focused on transcriptomics and cell culture in the microbiome. Currently, she is involved in a malaria therapeutic efficacy study, testing RDTs performance, and amplicon sequencing of P. falciparum and P.vivax.

Research Assistant
Illene Nanine completed her bachelor’s degree at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia with her thesis focusing on molecular cloning of thermostable protease gene. She is currently involved in projects regarding G6PD deficiency prevalence, variant characterization, and diagnostics in Indonesia.
