Edwin Sutanto, our senior bioinformatician at EHI, recently received travel award to attend the Molecular Approaches to Malaria 2024 conference on 18th–22nd February 2024. The conference discussed the latest developments in malaria by research groups around the world, covering multiple topics such as the life cycle biology of malaria in pre-erythrocytic, blood stage, sexual stage, and transmission; molecular epidemiology & population genetics; drug development and resistance; immunity; vaccine design; and pathogenesis.
Edwin presented his work “Deconvolving genetic complexity in Plasmodium vivax infections” in poster and flash talk sessions, highlighting EHI’s commitment to eradicating all malaria, even neglected ones. This work also collaborates with EHI’s Scientific Advisor Sarah Auburn (Menzies School of Health Research) as one of EHI’s partners in malaria research. EHI strives to create a solution out of this work to achieve Indonesia’s goal of malaria elimination in 2030.
